General information
Requip has some of the same effects as a chemical called dopamine, which occurs naturally in your body. It is used to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease, such as stiffness, tremors, muscle spasms, and poor muscle control. Requip is also used to treat restless legs syndrome (RLS).
Directions
Take the drug exactly as it was prescribed for you. Use it no more than two dosages a day. It may take several weeks or months of using this medicine before your symptoms improve. Do not stop taking Requip suddenly or change your doses. Talk to your doctor about how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when stopping the medication.
Precautions
Requip may cause you to fall asleep during normal daytime activities. You may fall asleep suddenly, even after feeling alert. If you are unsure of how this medicine will affect you, be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Also call your doctor if you experience hallucinations. Be careful if you have hypertension, problems with heart, psychic diseases, smoking, liver or kidney illness.
Contraindication
Avoid using if you have an allergy.
Possible side effect
Call your doctor at once if you have any of these side effects: somnolence, sickness, giddiness, insomnia, headache, belly pain, asthenia, constipation, if it is hard to move or hallucination, tremors, trouble breathing, stiff muscles, confusion, sweating or sudden sleepiness. If you feel dryness, it's needed to suck on candy, ice chips, or drink water.
Drug interaction
Cold or allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety can add to sleepiness caused by Requip. Tell your doctor if you regularly use any of these other medicines, or any other Parkinson's medications. Before taking Requip, tell your doctor if you are use ciprofloxacin, levodopa, metoclopramide, fluvoxamine, omeprazole, estrogens, medications for sickness and retching or mental illness.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don't take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Call emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Overdose symptoms may include weakness, sickness, hallucinations, muscle twitching and chest pain.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between between 59-86 F (15-30 C). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
