General information
Locoid cream is a topical corticosteroid. It is used to treat inflammation of the skin caused by a number of conditions such as allergic reactions, eczema or psoriasis.
Directions
Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions. Apply a small amount of medicine to the affected area. Gently rub it in until it is evenly distributed. Wash your hands after applying Locoid cream, unless your hands are part of the treated area.Do not bandage or wrap the affected area unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Do not use Locoid cream on your face, groin or underarms.
Precautions
Locoid cream is for external use only. If you get Locoid cream in your eyes, immediately flush them with cool tap water. Do not use more than the recommended dose or use for longer than 2 weeks without checking with your doctor. Do not apply Locoid cream over large areas of the body, to open wounds or to scraped, infected, burned skin without first checking with your doctor. Do not use Locoid cream for other skin conditions at a later time.
Contraindications
Some medical conditions may interact with Locoid cream. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking an oral corticosteroid (e.g., prednisone); if you have had a skin infection, thinning of the skin (atrophy), or a certain type of severe acne (rosacea); if you have chickenpox, shingles, measles, or tuberculosis (TB), or have had a positive TB skin test or a recent vaccination; if you have allergies to medicines; if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast-feeding.
Possible side effect
The most common side effects are itching, stinging, irritation, burning, dryness, peeling or redness at the application site when this medication is first applied to the skin. These side effects should disappear in a few days as your body adjusts to Locoid cream. Other side effects of this medicine are blistering skin, thinning of your skin, stretch marks. Tell your doctor if you have such serious side effects as weight gain, uneven heartbeats, sleep problems (e.g., insomnia), seeing halos around lights, blurred vision, puffiness in your face or feeling tired.
Drug interactions
Some medicines may interact with hydrocortisone cream. The risk of it interacting with another medicine is low because little of hydrocortisone cream is absorbed into the blood.
Missed dose
Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
If you consider that you took too much of this medications inform your doctor.
Storage
Store Locoid cream at room temperature, between 59 and 77 degrees F (15 and 25 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Locoid cream out of the reach of children and away from pets.
